Charlie Carter Who's who in Sarbreenar

Charlie Carter

Merchants’ Guildmaster

CHARLIE Carter runs a transport business, running caravans to Procampur, to Ravens Bluff and beyond. The big wagons carry quarried stone from the Sarbreenar mines and return with wood from Brynwood, luxury items from Procampur or special consignments from Aurora’s nearest authorised concession.

The secretive Council of Ten voted him in as the new Merchants’ Guildmaster after the assassination of Gordon Hoakes

Charlie is a heavily built, middle aged man who is now running a little to fat . He always wears a frown, but he is generally friendly in a bad tempered sort of way.

“What do you want then?...What?!?.. How in the name of the Triad can I do that? Now you listen here. I’ve got a business to run and you come pestering me with impossible requests. You can’t imagine how difficult... Oh well, I’ll see what can be done but I can’t even be thinking of it until next week.” The chances are that Charlie will fix your problem by the next day...but it will cost you.

Charlie Carter’s massive bulk can be seen strolling around his trading compound and secure warehouses shouting orders at his employees.

Charlie Carter's HaulageCharlie has good connections in most of the cities of the Vast. He needs them to make sure his trade caravans have food and secure lodgings wherever they stop overnight. Every now and then, Charlie disappears from Sarbreenar. They say he goes off travelling the trade routes to check everything is as it should be and to try to make new connections. He visits wayhouses, inns, ports, merchant consortiums and mercenary guilds. He needs to know the going rates for everything from a sea passage to Sembia to entry tariffs to Mulmaster. No caravan leader can cheat Charlie on their expenses.

Charlie is a major employer in Sarbreenar. He hires caravan guards, ostlers, scribes, security specialists and cartographers. He has a reputation for being a fair employer. “A fair price for a decent job,” says Charlie. But his idea of a decent job can be very demanding.

Charlie’s friends –

‘Angel’ Gabriel used to do the legwork for Charliebut now he has become the Minister of the Interior.
Torstan Holbrar the wheelwright is an old comrade. He keeps the wagons rolling in spite of the rough mountain roads...and no silly prices for his friend Charlie.
Robin Guernier the ranger seems to go missing around the time that Charlie goes off on his travels and people speculate that they work together, scouting new trade routes and trails.
