Justice for All Promulgated by Order of our
Lord and the High Council
HE
courts jurisdiction for the following laws is confined to
acts that occur within the land under the control of Sarbreenar,
unless otherwise stated. This jurisdiction may be extended by the
will of our Lord and the Council. The Lord and members of the Council
are appointed to the office of Magistrate. One magistrate sitting
alone may impose on conviction of any miscreant Minor Justice,
that is, a maximum fine, compensation, or confiscation value of
1,000 gp and/or servitude for up to 6 months. More severe punishments
are known as Major Justice and can only be given by a bench
of two or more Magistrates.
The proof of the committing of any alleged offence
is a duty imposed upon the High Constable of the Watch to
a standard that the court accepts as being sufficient. That officer
may appoint any person to act as the Prosecuting Inspector
in a particular case. Any person may undertake the role of Miscreants
Fool (an ancient and historical term for the one unfortunate
enough to be involved in representing wrongdoers).
The following terms have specific definitions within
Sarbreenar:
Unlawful:
Actions that are not authorised by the Council as being powers properly
delegated to others.
Person: A citizen
or an authorised visitor. Foreign assassins, spies or other reasoning
beings that harbour malice towards Sarbreenar may not receive the
full protection of the law.
