Sarbreenar rebuilt from the rubble
HE
town had to be rebuilt from the rubble. There was a plentiful supply
of stone from the surrounding mountains, but timber was in short
supply. The Vast has never recovered from the long-term devastation
of the forests by the orcs and only a few forests have survived.
Timber had to be brought in by ox-carts, from Brynwood, along Helves
Trail and then up the High Trail. Settlers came from all around
elves from Brynwood came as guards for the wagons
some of them claiming descent from Beluar. A few dwarves returned
to join the mining community. Tradespeople and craftspeople came
to serve to needs of the settlers and an overspill of adventurers
came from Ravens Bluff along with a number of lowlifes.
The land rises abruptly in cliffs
prone to avalanches, all around Sarbreenar. Nestled among the rocky
ridges and pinnacles are a dozen or so narrow, wet valleys carved
by mountain streams, and up all of them are farms where arthritic
folk rear sheep and goats among the moss and the constant mists.
Sarbreenar is their market town, their smithy, and their wagonworks.
After a few years a semblance
of stability returned to Sarbreenar. Stone was cut and transported
north to Ravens Bluff and south to Procampur, to be sold. The rugged
local breeds of sheep and goats thrived on the sparse mountain scrub
and they were herded and sold off in the nearby cities. Once the
trading routes were re-secured many merchants chose to send their
caravans through Sarbreenar rather than take the longer route over
Dragon Falls and through Glorming Pass. As they stopped off at Sarbreenar
new businesses sprung up to serve their needs.
Work began on a town wall to
protect the townspeople from the still present threat of raiders.
Everything seemed to be going so well. But it wasnt to last...
