Lost in Space
Part One of an Adventure Report by Dangerous

The Mission
Just
another day on The Head, the accursed leftover of some
dead god floating through the voids of the Astral Plane. The bar
had been fairly slow but I wasnt complaining. I had been
getting drunk for the last month cause there was nothing else
to do on this plane worth my time. The usual locals were
frequenting the bar; including the trader Aspic Troshala and today
he seemed to be taking a special interest in our little drinking
group.
He approached us is his usual manner but something
was up. Something was different. I didnt notice this myself
but a more observant Anarin beside me knew this wasnt a
social call. After the usual spout of trading, the male Teifling
offered us a job, a menial job picking up a scroll from some Demon
out in the Astral Plane. Normal circumstances permitting we would
have told the man to take a hike, especially as he offered us
200gp between the 5 of us but we had nothing better to do and
this so called trader was trying to get us back home.
Mission Report
After a quick trip next door to sell mundane
equipment to another trader called Codex Rex, our party set off
into the grey Astral Plane. Aspic had briefed us on directions
to reach the Demon and given us infinite string to tail behind
us but I wasnt convinced. Something told me that this trip
was going to be hard. I had a bad feeling about it and so did
my friends. Never put off by such things, we bent gravity to our
will and started to fall into the near empty void.
Falling, falling, falling we went. Down or up,
it now meant nothing to us primes, inexperienced in our new environment.
I noticed the Goblin having trouble with the slimy tentacle he
called an arm but that was his problem. I was more worried about
stopping, a knack I still hadnt got used to. We carried
on falling 'til a small figure came into sight. As we got nearer,
the familiar sight of the red mage Thanazzar came into view. The
chord behind his back gave away his visitor status in this plane.
Drifting nearer we approached to about 200 ft then slowed down
for what we thought to be an interesting encounter. What actually
happened was no less interesting but a lot more deadly.
Flying out of the mists looms a huge beast the
likes I have never seen before. It was obscene. The Gargantuan
creature with huge claws and an ominous singular eye started to
bear down on the red wizard. We watched as the beast lashed one
of its claws at the lifeline behind Thanazzar, severing it in
two just as the mage invoked the arcane procedure to return him
home. He disappeared in a flash and the beast let out a great
roar, turning to face us. The fight was on!
First
to act was Arrow and he invoked Correlon at lightning speeds to
grant him divine might and power to smite down this monstrosity.
Correlon complied and I saw the priest grow larger and filled
with this divine energy he met the creature for some bloody hand-to-hand
combat. It didnt go Arrows way. It never goes Arrows
way. The creature closed in and Arrow shrunk to his normal size,
the magic being nullified somehow. A few hack and slashes later
and Arrow found himself inside the belly of the beast. Bad move
I thought. It turned out the creature was the one who made the
bad move, swallowing more than it could handle but we wouldnt
find this out till later. The rest of us scattered in all directions,
not wanting to be space creature supper, and we blasted the creature
with spells out of the range of it nullifying eye. No effect.
Blast, the creature has more spell resistance than Godwin has
spells.
I then caught a glimpse of the creature writhing
in pain. It hacked, moaned then hacked again and small Arrow crawled
out of its mouth covered in goo, blood and innards. Shazzbat then
came barrelling into Arrow from nowhere, knocking him out the
way of the creatures nullifying eye ray and making the elf grow
larger. He subsequently laid the righteous beat down on the back
of the creature. It writhed in pain again, clearly getting the
**** kicked out of it so it ran. It ran like the chicken it was.
It ran (not in the literal sense having no legs) super fast knowing
its life was in danger. Anarin barraged it with arrows while it
fled then suddenly Arrow appeared with Shazzbat, behind the monster
and gave it another vicious beating with Anarins
mace of the morning lord. PRAISE LATHANDER FOR THE DIVINE BLESSING
OF HIS MACE. The beast cried out again but still was alive. It
turned round to face its nemesis, shrinking him then clawing him
into unconciousness, blood droplets spraying everywhere. Seeing
Arrow go limp it swallowed him again. Bad move again I though.
This one didnt matter as more arrows thudded into the creature
from Anarins bow and the beast went limp.
The Astral Dreadnaught was dead (we found the
name out later) but in the aftermath we found our string
the lifeline back to The Head had been cut. Lost in Space,
the adventure had only just begun.
