Black blood and bitter tears
As Sarbreenar collects new allies against the Zhentarim invaders,
the friendship of two groups hang in the balance.
A patrol of Sarbreenar heroes tried to save the town of Maerstar
from a hideous plague that was turning its people into purple
veined corpses. The Church of Ilmater was overwhelmed with the
pleas of the sick and the dying. The heroes were sent on a desperate
errand of mercy to try to retrieve the Chalice of Ilmater from
the Grove of Saint Maerlyn. The quest took them deep into the
Brynwood Forest where they witnessed a scene of carnage between
the People of the Black Blood and strange vampiric creature who
carried the plague.
They won the friendship of Arien the weretigeress leader who
lay dying among the corpses. With her help they found their way
to the Grove and underwent a test of their compassion and forgiveness.
But they were betrayed by Ilmaters Archprelate Rembold
who had become a plaything of the Red Rose vampire. Hundreds of
the plague ridden vampires swept into attack and they would have
been overcome except for the help of the lycanthropes, led by
the weretigress.
Now they had the Chalice and its three healing Tears but they
were faced with an impossible decision. Who should have the Tears
to heal their people? The People of the Black Blood or the people
of Maerstar? There was not enough to heal everyone and no one
could be satisfied.
It remains to be seen who will side with Sarbreenar when the
time of trial comes.
