High Warden, Joshua Lightsblood, controls the ‘Sentinels’,
and reports directly to the Minister for External Affairs, a member
of the High Council.
A Sentinel’s duties encompass a wide range of
activities, one of which is the local patrol that covers a fifteen-mile
area around the city. This patrol starts at different times of the
day and follows a different route each time thus making it difficult
for any hostile parties in the area to set up ambushes, raids, or
attacks. Other missions undertaken by Sentinels include patrols
that can last up to a ten-day, escorting caravans, mapping new areas,
hunting down dangerous beasts etc.
The Sentinels can be classed as the external mounted
‘Watch’. Their official duties include keeping the region
free of danger and apprehending criminals (or driving them away).
They may use deadly force only if given no other choice. The only
exception to this being monstrous creatures on which there are bounties
to be collected (and the head is the only evidence needed to collect
the bounty).

The Main Barracks
This building is divided into quarters, surrounding
a parade ground (Drill Quad), and can comfortably bunk 100. There
are also a number of offices and private quarters for non-commissioned
and commissioned officers. There is a large kitchen, and dining
room, weapons vault, and safe vault plus storage rooms, stables,
several latrines which complete the main complex. The jail is situated
underground, beneath the drill parade ground.
Elks Roost Sentinels HQ
Sir Joshua Lightsblood,
has reserved three first floor rooms and utilities in the Elks
Roost Tavern for the Sentinels Headquarters. Map and co-ordination
room, an office so that he can complete his paperwork, and a secure
weapons and storage room. He also has three sleeping quarters reserved.
One is in case he decides to stay, and the remaining two are for
Sentinels.
